James Bond The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
“The Spy Who Loved Me” is a classic James Bond movie that was released in 1977. It is the 10th installment in the popular James Bond film franchise produced by Eon Productions and the 3rd film to feature Roger Moore as the iconic spy, James Bond. The film co-stars Barbara Bach and Curt Jürgens, and was directed by Lewis Gilbert. The screenplay was written by Christopher Wood and Richard Maibaum, with additional contributions from Tom Mankiewicz.
The movie takes its title from Ian Fleming’s 1962 novel of the same name, though the film’s plot deviates significantly from the book. The story follows James Bond as he battles against the megalomaniac Karl Stromberg, who aims to destroy the world and create a new civilization under the sea. Bond joins forces with a Soviet agent, Anya Amasova, to stop Stromberg’s plans, while they are pursued by his powerful henchman, Jaws.
The Spy Who Loved Me was filmed on location in Egypt, Italy, and the Bahamas, and features stunning underwater scenes. The film was well received by critics, who praised Roger Moore’s performance as Bond and the soundtrack by Marvin Hamlisch. The Spy Who Loved Me was nominated for three Academy Awards and was later novelized by Christopher Wood.
In the film, Bond is summoned to investigate the disappearance of two ballistic-missile submarines, one British and one Soviet. Bond travels to Egypt where he encounters KGB agent Anya Amasova and the assassin Jaws. Bond and Amasova reluctantly join forces to stop Stromberg’s evil plan to launch nuclear missiles at Moscow and New York City, which would trigger a global nuclear war. Bond and Amasova board an American submarine and eventually defeat Stromberg, but are forced to flee as Atlantis, Stromberg’s hideout, is sunk. In the end, Amasova chooses not to kill Bond and the two embrace, setting the stage for their future adventures.
