James Bond Octopussy

James Bond Octopussy

James Bond Octopussy (1983)

James Bond Movie Octopussy is a spy film and the thirteenth entry in the James Bond movie series produced by Eon Productions. This film stars Roger Moore as the legendary MI6 agent James Bond and is directed by John Glen. The screenplay was written by George MacDonald Fraser, Richard Maibaum, and Michael G. Wilson.

The title of the film is inspired by a short story in Ian Fleming’s 1966 collection Octopussy and The Living Daylights, although the movie’s plot is mostly original. The film does include a scene from the Fleming short story “The Property of a Lady.” The background of the title character Octopussy is established through the events of the short story “Octopussy.”

In Octopussy, Bond is tasked with following a megalomaniacal Soviet general who is stealing jewelry and art from the Kremlin art repository. This leads Bond to an exiled Afghan prince named Kamal Khan and his associate Octopussy and the discovery of a plot to force disarmament in Western Europe using a nuclear weapon.

The film was produced by Albert R. Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson and was released four months before the non-Eon Bond film Never Say Never Again. It earned $187.5 million against its $27.5 million budget and received mixed reviews. The action sequences, locations, and Maud Adams’s portrayal of Octopussy drew both praise and criticism, while the plot and humor were targeted for criticism.

In the film, Bond starts by swapping a fake Fabergé egg with the real one at an auction in London and then follows the buyer, Kamal Khan, to his palace in India. Bond is later knocked unconscious and taken to Khan’s palace but manages to escape and discovers Khan’s association with a Soviet general seeking to expand Soviet domination to Western Europe. Bond infiltrates a floating palace owned by Octopussy, who leads the Octopus cult and has a personal connection with Bond. He discovers that the Soviet general is replacing Soviet treasures with a nuclear warhead that is primed to explode during a circus performance at a US Air Force base in West Germany. Bond deactivates the warhead and stops Khan from escaping. Bond and Octopussy return to India and launch an assault on Khan’s palace. Octopussy and Bond return to her private yacht in India, where they recuperate after their mission.
